In the annals of Bollywood’s romantic tales, few narratives rival the enduring love story of Dharmendra and Hema Malini. Their saga, marked by trials and societal scrutiny, culminated in a bond that continues to captivate hearts. Amidst the glitz and glamour, a poignant gesture from Dharmendra stands out, emblematic of his unwavering devotion to his family.

Back in 1981, anticipation filled the air as Hema Malini, affectionately dubbed the ‘Dream Girl’ of Indian cinema, awaited the arrival of her first child with Dharmendra.

Their love, a defiance of conventions, had weathered societal disapproval, with Dharmendra navigating the complexities of a prior marriage. Yet, as Esha Deol’s birth approached, Dharmendra’s protective instincts took center stage.

In an extraordinary display of love and care, Dharmendra took the unprecedented step of booking an entire hospital for Hema’s delivery. This heartfelt gesture, revealed by Hema’s close friend Neetu Kohli on the talk show ‘Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai,’ remained a well-guarded secret.

According to Neetu, “When Esha was going to be born, nobody knew that Hema was pregnant, so Dharam ji had booked the whole hospital for Esha. It was a nursing home with about 100 rooms. He booked all the 100 rooms for Esha to be born.”

In Hema’s biography titled Hema Malini: Beyond The Dream Girl, the actor recalled that she met Dharmendra’s mother Satwant Kaur during her first pregnancy. She shared, “Dharamji’s mother Satwant Kaur was equally warm and kind-hearted.

I remember how she came to meet me once at a dubbing studio in Juhu after I had conceived Esha. She hadn’t informed anyone in the house. I touched her feet, and she hugged me and said, ‘Beta, khush raho hamesha (Be happy always).’ I was happy that they were happy with me

This act of reserving an entire hospital speaks volumes about Dharmendra’s commitment to shielding his family’s privacy and ensuring their utmost comfort during a pivotal moment. It transcends mere material provision, symbolizing the depth of his love and reverence for Hema and their unborn child.

Dharmendra’s gesture, a testament to his unwavering devotion, transcends societal norms and expectations. It illuminates the profound bond shared by a man devoted to his family’s happiness and well-being.
