Air Taxi Service from Central Delhi to Gurugram at Rs 2,000-3,000: IndiGo and Archer Aviation’s Vision for Urban Air Mobility

IndiGo’s parent company, InterGlobe Enterprises, and US-based Archer Aviation are poised to revolutionize urban transportation in India with the launch of an all-electric air taxi service by 2026. This innovative venture aims to ferry passengers from Delhi’s bustling Connaught Place to Gurugram in just seven minutes, at an affordable fare ranging from Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000.

The collaboration between InterGlobe Enterprises and Archer Aviation signals a transformative shift towards sustainable urban air mobility solutions. Archer Aviation will provide 200 electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft, designed to operate akin to helicopters but with reduced noise levels and enhanced safety features.

With an estimated investment of $1 billion, Archer’s eVTOL aircraft will offer a seamless travel experience, accommodating four passengers alongside a pilot. The compact design and advanced technology promise to significantly shorten travel times, cutting down a 90-minute car journey to a mere seven-minute flight.

Adam Goldstein, Founder and CEO of Archer Aviation, revealed that discussions with regulatory authorities, including the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), are progressing well. Certification processes are underway, with expectations of obtaining regulatory approval by next year. Subsequently, the certification process will extend to India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), facilitating the commencement of flight operations in 2026.

Archer Aviation’s commitment to sustainable aviation is further underscored by its battery-powered eVTOL aircraft, equipped with six battery packs. With rapid charging capabilities, these aircraft can be fully charged within 30-40 minutes, ensuring minimal downtime between flights.

Beyond the technical aspects, Archer Aviation is actively engaging with municipal authorities to address infrastructure requirements for flight operations. Discussions encompass the establishment of vertiports and launchpads, essential for facilitating seamless air travel within urban landscapes.

InterGlobe Enterprises’ extensive expertise in aviation, coupled with Archer Aviation’s cutting-edge technology, promises to redefine urban mobility in India.
