With the April 15 deadline approaching swiftly, officials from the district election office disclosed on Wednesday that they have amassed over 50,000 voter registration applications for the Baramati Lok Sabha seat since January. Among these, 6,294 applications await processing, with the deadline set for April 18.

The closure of voter registration for the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency on Tuesday marked a pivotal moment in the electoral calendar. The constituency is primed for polling on May 7, with provisions for new voter registrations up to 10 days preceding the final day of nominations for each of the seven phases of the election.

As the electoral process unfolds, officials have now initiated the registration phase for the fourth and fifth phases of polling in the state. The impending deadline for voter registration for Pune, Shirur, and Maval aligns with the last day of nomination on April 25.

Meanwhile, for the fifth phase, aspiring voters must complete their registrations by April 23, in preparation for the nomination day slated for May 3. Spanning six assembly constituencies—Indapur, Daund, Baramati, Purandar, Khadakwasla, and Bhor—the Baramati constituency boasts a significant voter count exceeding 23 lakhs.

Commenting on the surge in new voter applications, Suhas Diwase, the Pune district collector, affirmed that due diligence is being exercised in the verification process. He underscored the assurance that no further deletions from the electoral rolls will transpire during this period. Eligible voters have the option to register anew or request a change in constituency by submitting Form 8. Since January 23, Pune district election officials have recorded an influx of over 1.94 lakh applications, reflecting the active participation in the democratic process.
