A Hyderabad resident’s unsettling discovery of fungus on a Cadbury chocolate, despite it being well within its expiration date, has sparked concern among consumers.

The individual, who purchased the chocolate in Hyderabad, was shocked to find fungus covering the product upon opening the packet. 

Photos of the contaminated chocolate quickly circulated on social media, prompting others to share similar experiences with Cadbury chocolates and advising the user to take legal action with the consumer court.

The consumer posted a complaint on April 27 on the microblogging platform X. It has since then accumulated over six lakh views and the numbers are still increasing. Additionally, many users have reshared it, adding their thoughts and comments along the way.

“Did they contact to find the batch number or just ignored?” asked an X user. To this, the complainant shared that the company has “ignored” it.

Another added that the “shelf life of chocolate is 15 days”.

A third X user suggested people should “avoid eating chocolates” as such incidents also happened in the past

The images shared by the Hyderabad resident depict fungus growth on chocolates that were manufactured in January 2024, well before their expiration date. Alongside the fungal contamination, one of the chocolates also exhibited a sizable hole at the back. 

In response to the viral post, Cadbury issued a statement expressing regret over the “unpleasant experience” and assuring consumers that their products undergo rigorous quality checks to ensure they are free from any physical, chemical, or microbiological issues.

Cadbury noted that the manufacturing date of the affected Dairy Milk chocolates was in January 2024, with a shelf life of 12 months from manufacture. Despite attempts to reach out to the customer, the company stated that they had not received a response.
