Muslims in the city are gearing up to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Thursday, following the sighting of the crescent moon on Wednesday evening. The day will commence with special Eid prayers after the pre-dawn Fajr prayers, followed by joyful embraces as Muslims greet each other.

The festivities will include sharing festive meals with loved ones, exchanging greetings and gifts, and showing kindness to those less fortunate. As per Islamic teachings, forgiveness and seeking forgiveness are encouraged on this auspicious day.

In suburbs like Pune Cantonment, there is a noticeable surge in activity leading up to the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr. Malls and special “Ramadan markets” witness increased footfall as Muslims shop for Eid essentials and gifts.

Maulana Qari Idreesfa, a respected Islamic scholar, remarked, “On this sacred occasion, we pray for the welfare of the community and the country for peace and prosperity.”

Eid-ul-Fitr falls on the first day of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, following the sighting of the new moon. It is a significant Islamic festival symbolizing the end of Ramadan and the breaking of the fast. Although it is celebrated worldwide, the exact date varies annually due to the lunar calendar.
