Hritwik Haldar, a Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) graduate, recently took to LinkedIn to share his remarkable journey from being an average student to achieving academic excellence.

Haldar, who initially struggled with competitive exams like JEE, NEET, and others, recounted his transformational academic journey that eventually led him to MIT.

In his post, Haldar candidly admitted that he was a “very average student” and lacked proper guidance on effective studying methods, which made him dislike studying.

However, a pivotal change occurred when he shifted his focus from rote memorization to understanding concepts during his class 10. This change in approach yielded positive results, and he scored an impressive 93.4% in high school.

Despite his initial success, transitioning to exams like JEE, JEE Advanced, NEET, and KVPY SX proved to be challenging for Haldar. He faced setbacks and failed to perform well in these exams, which severely affected his confidence. However, an opportunity to study at RKMV Belur proved to be a turning point in his life. The vast library at Belur helped him build his scientific concepts, particularly in chemistry. Emphasizing self-study, RKMV enabled him to develop his own learning methods and perspectives.

Although Haldar faced another setback in the KVPY SB exam, where he performed well only in chemistry, he managed to secure the 10th rank in the SC category.

He acknowledged the significance of SC quota, which made admission to IISER Pune possible for him. At IISER Pune, Haldar’s academic journey reached its peak, as the research environment instilled invaluable skills in critical thinking and hypothesis building.

Maintaining an impressive GPA of 9.1 at IISER Pune, Haldar’s academic achievements paved the way for his admission to MIT. Reflecting on his journey, Haldar’s story serves as a testament to perseverance, resilience, and the transformative power of education.
