Maharashtra is set to experience a surge in temperatures over the next 48 hours, accompanied by the possibility of thunderstorms, lightning, and rain.

The state’s maximum temperatures (Tmax) are expected to rise initially before gradually tapering off. Meanwhile, minimum temperatures (Tmin) are projected to remain stable.

The onset of a heatwave is forecasted for the 4th and 5th of the month, particularly impacting regions including Solapur, Latur, Dharasiv, and Beed. Additionally, hot and humid weather conditions are anticipated in various parts of the state, including Pune, within the next two days.

Precautionary Measures Advised:

To mitigate the effects of the impending heatwave and hot, humid weather, citizens are urged to take the following precautions:

  1. Limit Heat Exposure: Avoid prolonged exposure to extreme heat. Seek shelter in cool, shaded areas whenever possible.
  2. Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water regularly, even if not feeling thirsty, to prevent dehydration.
  3. Dress Appropriately: Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting cotton clothing to facilitate better air circulation and cooling.
  4. Protect Your Head: Use a wet cloth, hat, or umbrella to shield yourself from the sun’s rays, especially during peak hours.
  5. Exercise Caution: If engaged in outdoor activities, schedule strenuous tasks for cooler times of the day. Take frequent breaks and rest in shaded areas to prevent overheating.
  6. Monitor Health: Be vigilant for signs of heat-related illnesses such as weakness, dizziness, headache, nausea, sweating, and seizures. Seek medical attention promptly if experiencing any symptoms.

Advice for Farmers:

Farmers are advised to continue irrigation activities to ensure the well-being of crops amidst the rising temperatures. It is crucial to monitor soil moisture levels and adjust irrigation schedules accordingly to prevent water stress in plants.

As Maharashtra braces for challenging weather conditions, proactive measures and awareness of potential risks are essential to safeguard public health and well-being. Stay informed, stay safe, and take necessary precautions to navigate through the impending heatwave and thunderstorm season.
