Lok Sabha Elections 2024: 65 lakh cash and vehicles seized in 2 different incidents in Pune district

As the Lok Sabha Election 2024 code of conduct comes into effect in the Pune district, the Bharati squad is rigorously implementing regulations. In two separate incidents, approximately 65 lakh cash and one vehicle were seized by police squads and heavy squad operations.

During the code of conduct period, it is prohibited to possess more than Rs 50,000 in cash. Vehicles entering the district are subject to inspection by the Bharati squad. On April 8, Bhosari MIDC police spotted a black Fortuner car with a fancy number plate near C. Circle near the Bhosari MIDC Police Station, arousing suspicion.

Following further investigation, police seized Rs 500 notes totalling Rs 13.9 lakh from the vehicle. In another incident on April 10, Shirur Police Station staff discovered 51 lakh 16 thousand rupees in a private vehicle near Kaman Pool in the Shirur City Council area.

Upon receiving this information, the Bharati squad promptly notified the Income Tax Department. The seized amount has been secured in the treasury, awaiting further action pending an inquiry by the Income Tax Department, as stated by Election Decision Officer Ajay More.
