Pune’s housing societies will experience an increase in polling booths, befitting greater democratic and local engagement processes.

Suhas Diwase, Pune district collector stated more residential societies will host polling booths based on request forms from the residents. He also announced a one-month registration procedure starting from Monday, during which they received more than 1 lakh forms, concerned with new voter registrations, address changes, and deletions. 

These polling booths will play a crucial role in democratic processes such as facilitating voting, ensuring accessibility, promoting voter turnout, reduced congestion, local familiarity, enhancing security and integrity by conducting fair and impartial processes, reducing the chances of fraud or coercion. It also encourages community engagement and provides voter assistance, maintaining an effective and accessible voting for residents of housing societies. 

In the Lok Sabha Elections, Pune had seen registration of over 83,38,747 voters until April 25. The administration plans to intensify registration drive and also look at rearrangement of polling stations as per ECI mandate.
