Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar announces fuel price cuts during the state Budget presentation.

Maharashtra has reduced fuel prices in the Mumbai region. Diesel is now cheaper by Rs 2 per liter, and petrol costs 65 paise less per liter. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar made this announcement during the state Budget presentation on June 28.

Deputy CM Ajit Pawar explained, “Tax on diesel is being decreased from 24% to 21% for the Mumbai region, effectively 2 rupees per liter less for diesel. In the Mumbai region, the tax on petrol is being decreased from 26% to 25%, which will effectively decrease rates of petrol by 65 paise per liter.” These price cuts apply to Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Thane.

In addition to lowering fuel prices, the state Budget includes other benefits. Electricity bills for 44 lakh farmers will be waived, and poor families will receive three free LPG cylinders every year.

These measures come as Maharashtra prepares for state legislative assembly elections later this year, although the exact dates have not yet been announced.
