The veteran actor responds to sexual harassment accusations, claiming he remains unaffected.
In a recent interview, veteran actor Nana Patekar addressed the #MeToo allegations made by Tanushree Dutta, who accused him of sexually harassing her on the sets of the 2008 film “Horn OK Pleassss.” Patekar asserted that he remains unaffected by the accusations and maintained his innocence, stating, “Mujhe nahin gussa aaya” (I didn’t get angry).
During the interview, Patekar emphasized his lack of concern over the allegations, explaining, “Nahin, mujhe maaloom tha jab aisa kuch hai hi nahin” (No, I knew whatever was being said didn’t happen). He reiterated that nothing inappropriate had occurred on the film set, where about 50 people were present during the filming of a special song. Patekar further stated, “Kuch hua hi nahi tha. I don’t know what was it about. Kuch hua hota toh hum batate. All of a sudden koi kehta hai aapne aisa kiya, hum kya kehta, humne nahi kiya?” (Nothing happened. I don’t know what it was about. If something had happened, I would have told. Suddenly, someone says you did this. What do I say, I didn’t do it?).
In October 2018, Dutta filed a complaint against Patekar, accusing him of inappropriate behaviour on the set. Patekar consistently denied these allegations, and in 2019, Mumbai Police cleared him after finding no evidence to support Dutta’s claims.
Patekar also shared his detachment from the film industry’s issues, stating, “I do not belong to this industry. I am just a professional who works there and returns home. I have no interest in industry matters or what goes on there.”
The #MeToo movement, which gained momentum in 2018, saw numerous women in the entertainment industry come forward with their stories of sexual harassment, including Dutta’s high-profile accusations against Patekar. Despite the controversy, Patekar has maintained his stance that the allegations were baseless.
