Two businessmen from Gujarat, Jignesh Malani and Kashyap Kumar Lalani, faced legal repercussions after making a jest about carrying a nuclear bomb while boarding a flight at Delhi’s IGI airport. The incident occurred on April 5 and resulted in the offloading of the passengers due to perceived security threats.

The complaint lodged by an airline security supervisor highlighted the passengers’ frustration during security screening and their questioning of its necessity despite prior checks. Allegedly, one of the passengers joked about carrying a nuclear bomb, leading to concerns about the safety of all travellers and the aircraft.

Jignesh Malani and Kashyap Kumar Lalani, who were merely trying to catch their flight back to Ahmedabad, inadvertently triggered a security nightmare by uttering the words no airport official ever wants to hear: “What will you do if I am carrying a nuclear bomb?”

DCP (IGIA) Usha Rangnani revealed that further investigation identified the passengers as business contractors from Rajkot, Gujarat, who had travelled to Delhi for a business meeting regarding the purchase of stainless steel railing materials.

In response to the incident, a case has been registered against the two men under sections 182 and 505 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for false information and circulating statements with intent to cause harm to public servants. The legal action underscores the seriousness with which authorities treat security threats, even when made in jest.
