Pimpri-Chinchwad, May 3, 2024 – In an effort to mitigate the risk of fire-related incidents, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s Fire Department is conducting thorough surveys on fire prevention and life safety across various properties within the city. The move comes in the wake of recent fires in industrial and commercial zones which resulted in significant losses of life and property. Investigations have revealed that the majority of these incidents were caused by inadequate fire safety measures in commercial buildings.

The ongoing survey targets commercial, industrial, educational, institutional, and medical facilities, assessing factors such as hazardous material storage, the efficacy of existing fire fighting systems, and the overall safety of movement within these premises. Despite having issued two official notices to property owners and occupants to rectify identified deficiencies, compliance has been unsatisfactory.

As a result, properties in the Chikhli and Talwade areas that continued to ignore safety directives have faced stringent measures, including disconnection of utilities and sealing of buildings. The Fire Department has issued a clear warning: properties failing to comply with fire safety norms will face similar consequences.

Under the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Protection Measures Act, 2006, building owners and occupants are required to maintain operational fire prevention measures and obtain a Business Fire Safety Certificate from a licensed agency. This certificate must be presented to the municipal fire office, confirming compliance with safety regulations.

The municipal fire department emphasizes that its primary goal is to prevent fire-related casualties and financial losses, especially in public spaces such as industrial complexes, commercial buildings, schools, and hospitals. In pursuit of this objective, the city continues to enforce compliance through rigorous inspections and will persist with its actions against non-compliant business owners.

Furthermore, the department encourages all businesses within the city to install requisite fire safety systems and to secure a Business Fire Safety Completion Certificate by applying through authorized Maharashtra Fire Services agencies. This step is vital for ensuring the safety of both property and life within Pimpri-Chinchwad.
