Detailed evidence submitted against 17-year-old driver involved in fatal accident

June 19, 2024 – Pune: Police have submitted the final report to the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) regarding the involvement of a 17-year-old boy in a car crash that resulted in the deaths of two software professionals in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar last month, according to an officer’s statement on Tuesday.

The teenager, who was driving a Porsche during the accident in the early hours of May 19, is currently being held at an observation home in the city. The crash claimed the lives of a male and a female software professional.

In their final report, the police have presented substantial evidence to the JJB to support their plea for the juvenile to be tried as an adult. “We have submitted all evidence to the JJB proving that he was behind the wheel of the Porsche car, starting from his house on the evening of May 19 until the accident occurred,” the officer stated.

The evidence includes statements from eyewitnesses who observed the teenager driving, CCTV footage from the investigation, and proof of alcohol consumption at Cosie Restaurant and Blak Club. “The comprehensive final report demonstrates that the juvenile, in an inebriated condition, was driving the car and caused the death of two riders,” the officer added.

The police’s plea to treat the juvenile as an adult for trial purposes is supported by this report. Additionally, the investigation has uncovered that the juvenile’s blood samples, initially swapped with those of his mother, were disposed of as bio-medical waste at Sassoon General Hospital.

The minor’s parents, alongside two doctors—Dr. Ajay Taware and Dr. Shrihari Halnor—and a hospital employee, Atul Ghatkamble, are currently incarcerated for their alleged roles in the blood sample swapping scheme. Police have also detained two intermediaries who facilitated financial transactions between the doctors and the juvenile’s father, a prominent builder, to arrange the blood sample swap.
