 A school bus, a parked car, two motorcycles, and two stalls were badly damaged after being hit by a container around 8 AM today. The container driver has been detained by police.

Pune- A major accident took place on the Pune-Mumbai highway wherein a speeding container rammed into a shop while trying to save a school bus parked in front of a bus stop near Matoshree Hospital. The woman, who was standing at the bus stop, passed away on the spot while four others sustained serious injuries. Three school-going children were also among the injured. In this accident, a school bus, a motor vehicle, two motorcycles, and two roadside stalls were damaged.

The incident took place at around 8:15 AM on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Lata Ranjit Jadhav (40), a resident of Vadgaon Maval. The injured have been identified as Sandeep Jhalte (40), Srishti Bhatekar (15), Maitreya Bhawar (11), and Mrinal Bhawar (14). They have been admitted to different private hospitals for further treatment.

According to police, the commuters were waiting at the Kude Wada bus stop around 8:15 AM on Wednesday. A school bus was parked on the side of the highway. The container which was travelling from Mumbai to Pune swerved in an attempt to save the school bus and veered onto the service road. In the process, it hit a parked car, and two motorcycles, and eventually crashed into a shop.

The woman waiting at the bus stop got crushed under the wheels of the container and died on the spot while other school children suffered several injuries. The container was removed with the help of a crane and the woman’s body was pulled out. Traffic on the highway was disrupted for some time but was restored after the container was removed from the road. Several accidents have taken place at the spot in the past and the citizens are demanding that the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) take safety measures to prevent such fatal accidents.
