In a significant development, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has expanded its tax ambit by incorporating over 53,000 new properties in the fiscal year 2023–24.

This move is expected to yield an estimated revenue of Rs 170 crore for the civic body. The surge in properties under PMC’s jurisdiction has been notable, with the total number rising from 8 lakh in 2017 to 12.5 lakh presently, following the merging of 34 areas into PMC’s limits.

To encourage property owners to register with the corporation, dedicated ward-wise teams have been deployed to identify unregistered properties, as highlighted by Madhav Jagtap, head of PMC’s property tax department.

The increased revenue from property tax, amounting to around Rs 2,275 crore, is complemented by a remarkable earning of over Rs 2,400 crore by PMC’s building permissions department during the same period.

PMC’s proactive approach, including special drives and collaborations with the building permissions department, underscores its commitment to bolstering revenue streams through effective tax administration and property management strategies.
