Pune: Retired ENT Surgeon From Kondhwa Swindled Of Rs 5 Crore With False Promises Of Religious Rewards And Heavenly Blessings

In a distressing incident in Kondhwa, a retired ENT surgeon, aged 67, fell victim to a fraudulent scheme, losing a staggering sum of ₹5.37 crore. The perpetrators, a family consisting of Sadiq Abdulmajeed Shaikh, his wife Yasmin, and their children, Etesham and Ammar, employed cunning tactics, exploiting the doctor’s trust with false promises of religious rewards and heavenly blessings.

According to authorities familiar with the case, the accused gradually built a rapport with the surgeon, gaining his confidence over a period spanning from October 17, 2018, to April 11. Through manipulation and persuasive tactics, they convinced the doctor to hand over 11 reward certificates purportedly for various properties and valuable assets, including cash and gold articles.

The victim, Dr. Ahmad Ali Inam Ali Qureshi, residing in Mayfair Eleganza on NIBM Road, Kondhwa, eventually discerned the deception and demanded the return of his assets. However, the accused, who resides in Harmony Society on Kondhwa-Bibwewadi Road, Gultekdi, callously refused his pleas.

Subsequently, Dr. Qureshi lodged a complaint at the Kondhwa Police Station, prompting the registration of a case under sections 420, 406, 323, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. Heading the investigation is Police Inspector (Crime) Mansingh Patil, who is diligently pursuing justice for the victim.

The accused’s exploitation of the doctor’s trust through religious manipulation and deceitful tactics highlights the insidious nature of the scam. As the investigation unfolds, authorities are working tirelessly to uncover the full extent of the fraud and ensure accountability for those involved in this reprehensible act.
