On Sunday around 5:00 PM, Adwait Sudesh Varma, an 18-year-old student from Mayur Vihar, East Delhi, lost his life while visiting the Pavana Dam for an outing with his 6 friends on Sunday afternoon. Adwait was pursuing his education at Symbiosis College of Design in Pune.

According to reports, Adwait and his five friends had gone to Pavana Dam on Sunday for leisure activities. While at the dam, Adwait ventured into the water but tragically drowned as he underestimated its depth. Despite efforts by his friends to rescue him, they were unsuccessful in saving Adwait.

Local authorities were promptly informed of the incident by his friends, and a rescue operation was initiated. However, by the time Adwait was pulled out of the water, it was too late. His body was found around 8:30 PM by the rescuers.

Adwait’s untimely demise has deeply saddened his family and friends. He was described as a bright student with a promising future ahead. His friends, who witnessed the incident, were devastated by the turn of events and recounted their unsuccessful attempts to save him.

The Pavana Dam area is popular among locals and tourists for its scenic beauty, but incidents of drowning due to underestimating water depths are unfortunately not uncommon.

Adwait’s body was later handed over to his family after necessary formalities were completed. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of caution while enjoying recreational activities near water bodies.

The in-charge of the investigation is Inspector Kishor Dhuman, Lonavala Rural Police Station.

Authorities have urged the public, especially youth, to exercise caution and adhere to safety guidelines when visiting such locations to prevent similar tragedies in future.
