In a surprising turn of events, residents of Navi Mumbai were taken aback when they spotted flamingos strolling along the roads for the first time. Unfortunately, tragedy struck as some of these majestic birds fell victim to vehicular accidents in the early hours of Friday on the service road off Palm Beach road.

According to eyewitnesses, one flamingo was seen struggling to stand before succumbing to its injuries. Another bird was spotted walking on Palm Beach road, with four others showing signs of distress. Regrettably, one of them passed away right before their eyes.

B.N. Kumar, director of NatConnect Foundation, expressed concern over this unusual behavior, suggesting that the flamingos might have become disoriented or fatigued. He called for an investigation by the environment department to understand the root cause of this tragedy.
Furthermore, the dry conditions of DPS Flamingo Lake and the pollution in the NRI wetland have exacerbated the situation. With the habitat in poor condition, flamingos are struggling to find food and shelter, prompting calls for intervention from the authorities.

NatConnect Foundation has once again urged the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) to collaborate with CIDCO to protect the DPS Flamingo Lake and preserve biodiversity in the region.
This incident serves as a reminder of the delicate balance between urban development and the conservation of natural habitats.
