Despite the SUV segment gaining momentum in the Indian automotive market, the Maruti Suzuki WagonR has maintained its dominance as the largest-selling car in the country for the third consecutive year in FY24. This achievement is noteworthy, especially considering the decline in the hatchback segment’s market share over the past few years.

In FY24, while the SUV segment accounted for 50.4% of the domestic market, the hatchback segment saw a decline to 27.8%. Despite this trend, India emerged as the third-largest car market globally in FY24, with wholesale volumes surpassing 4,000,000 units for the first time during a fiscal year.

The Maruti Suzuki WagonR secured its position as the top-selling car in India, with sales reaching 200,177 units in FY24. This marks its third consecutive year at the top, following previous successes in FY23 and FY22 with 212,000 units and 189,000 units sold, respectively.

In comparison, other popular models such as the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, and Hyundai Creta trailed behind in sales volume in FY24. Despite fierce competition, the WagonR has emerged as the preferred choice for Indian consumers.

Available at a price range starting from Rs 5,54,500 to Rs 7,37,500 (Ex-showroom), the Maruti Suzuki WagonR offers two engine options: the 1.0-litre K10C petrol and the 1.2-litre K12N petrol. Both engine variants are equipped with 5-speed manual transmission (MT) and 5-speed automated manual transmission (AMT) options. Additionally, there is a CNG variant available with the 1.0-litre K10C petrol engine, providing an eco-friendly alternative.

Built on the fifth-generation Heartect platform, the WagonR prioritizes safety with features such as ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), and hill-hold assist, ensuring a secure driving experience for customers. With its continued popularity and impressive sales figures, the Maruti Suzuki WagonR remains a cornerstone in the Indian automotive market.
