Precautionary closure aims to prevent accidents during monsoon season

June 22, 2024

The Chandgad tehsil and Tilari Ghat region experience intense monsoon rainfall. Experts have noted that the guardrails along the roadside are in poor condition at various points in the ghat section, heightening the risk of accidents.

Collector Yedge’s order highlighted the narrow and treacherous nature of the ghat section, characterized by sharp inclines and declines that make it particularly hazardous for heavy vehicles, which struggle to navigate the bends. The order mentioned, “Due to heavy traffic in the ghat, vehicles get stuck on sharp turns, making it difficult to bring in cranes for removal. Even cranes have met with accidents while attempting to remove stuck vehicles.”

To mitigate these risks, heavy vehicles have been rerouted via Amboli and Chorla Ghats. Additionally, ongoing work on Highway 548H, connecting Sankeshwar, Gadhinglaj, Ajara, Amboli, and Banda, is expected to be completed by the end of June, providing an alternative route for diverted traffic.
