The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has projected that the scorching temperatures in Pune will persist, with day temperatures expected to hover around 39-40°C until April 27.

Despite slight relief in Shivajinagar, where the temperature dropped to 37.8°C, areas like Lohegaon continue to sizzle at 39.2°C. A senior IMD official attributed the marginal decrease in temperature to recent cloudy conditions and sporadic rainfall over the past three days. However, substantial relief from the heatwave is unlikely in the coming days due to ongoing moisture incursion across the state.

The unrelenting heatwave has seen temperatures soar above 40°C in some parts of the city, including Talegaon Dhamdhare, Shirur, Rajgurunagar, and Wadgaonsheri. Marathwada, on the other hand, has experienced a welcome respite with a significant 825% excess rainfall between April 1 and 21.

The unseasonal rainfall, while providing relief from the scorching temperatures, has wreaked havoc on summer crops across the state, leading to massive losses for fruit growers. Reports indicate that the extreme weather conditions have resulted in the loss of lives and damaged crops spread over thousands of hectares.

While the region grapples with the unpredictability of weather patterns, the IMD advises residents to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions to combat the adverse effects of the heatwave and unseasonal rainfall.
