Pune: Alstom has successfully delivered the first Metropolis metro train for Pune Metro Line 3, connecting Hinjawadi’s IT hub with Shivajinagar’s central business district. These 100% Made-in-India trains, built at Alstom’s Sricity facility in Andhra Pradesh, can operate at speeds of up to 85 km/h.

Commenting at the handover ceremony, Olivier Loison, Managing Director of Alstom India, expressed his excitement:  “We are thrilled to be contributing to this prestigious project by Tata Group. Our locally manufactured, technologically advanced Metropolis metro trains will enhance the quality of life for citizens and support the city’s development. At Alstom, we develop sustainable products that operate efficiently for decades.”

The Pune Metro Line III is a 23-km elevated rail project with 23 stations, linking Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar. The project is managed jointly by Tata Group and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) through a Public Private Partnership (PPP). Tata Group has established Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited as a special purpose vehicle (SPV) to build this corridor.
In 2021, a joint venture between Alstom India, TRIL Urban Transport Private Limited (a Tata Group Company), and Siemens Project Ventures GmbH (a subsidiary of Siemens Financial Services) was awarded the contract by PMRDA. This contract includes providing the rolling stock, electrical, and mechanical systems for the metro line. The project follows a Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT) model.
As part of this contract, Alstom will manufacture 22 Metropolis trainsets, each with three cars, capable of carrying 1,000 passengers per train. This project aims to improve urban mobility and contribute to the sustainable development of Pune.
