Pune, June 27, 2024 – On the occasion of World MSME Day, Amazon India has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering local small businesses in Pune, aligning with a broader national effort of bolstering the MSME sector.

India’s MSME sector has played an important role in the country’s overall economic development. According to relevant government websites and registrations on the Udyam Portal (as of March 2024), 97.7% of MSMEs registered were classified as micro-enterprises, while 1.5% were small enterprises. These numbers reflect the sector’s immense potential in addressing the nation’s unemployment concerns, particularly among educated youth, and can contribute to a stable, incremental economic growth in the coming decades. Recognizing MSMEs’ critical role in employment generation and their significant contribution to the country’s GDP, Amazon is dedicated to providing these enterprises with the necessary tools and platforms to thrive in today’s digital-first economy.

Amazon’s various seller initiatives, such as Local Shops and Saheli, for MSMEs, focus on overcoming common challenges faced by these businesses, such as proper promotion, consumer visibility, and nationwide reach. By offering a dedicated platform, Amazon enables these MSMEs to showcase their products to a much wider audience, additionally benefiting from a vast selection of products and reliable delivery services.

Maharashtra, in particular, boasts of the highest number of business units registered (37.12 lakhs), making it a key state for Amazon, and the MSME sector. With 1.6 lakh sellers from Maharashtra already selling on their platform, Amazon is now committed to digitizing 10 million MSMEs by 2025, providing them with the tools to succeed in this dynamic digital age.
