Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah is set to address a crucial party meeting in Pune on July 14, confirmed by Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule. The meeting holds significant importance as Maharashtra gears up for assembly elections expected in October this year.

Bawankule stated that approximately 4,500 party functionaries will attend the event in Pune, emphasizing its importance in the lead-up to the elections. “We have requested Amit Shah to address the meeting, and he has agreed to come to Pune,” he added.

Regarding the upcoming Maharashtra legislative council polls scheduled for next month, Bawankule mentioned that candidate names are to be finalized shortly. “Our central parliamentary board will decide on suitable candidates beneficial for the state,” he assured.

The BJP is keen on securing the chairperson post of the state legislative council. Discussions on this matter will involve Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, and other 11 parties constituting the NDA (National Democratic Alliance). Voting for the 11 MLC (Member of Legislative Council) seats, if necessary, is slated for July 12.

These biennial elections to the 11 seats from the MLC quota are poised to be a litmus test for both the ruling Mahayuti coalition and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance. The outcomes will potentially set the tone for the upcoming assembly elections later this year.

Amit Shah’s address in Pune comes amidst strategic preparations by political parties vying for dominance in Maharashtra’s political landscape, marking a pivotal moment ahead of the state’s electoral challenges.
