BMCC launches four-year B. Com – Honours course to make students industry-ready

Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce (BMCC) of Deccan Education Society will commence a four-year Bachelors in Commerce (B.Com) Honours course from this academic year onwards. The course has been designed in collaboration with the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAI).

“The curriculum will be useful for the students perusing professional courses like CA, CA, CMA and international courses like CFA and CPA. The programme will be of 160 credit marks,” said Dr Seema Purohit, Principal, BMCC.

Dr Purohit also added that the course will focus on skill development which will be beneficial to the students. “Management, finance, cost and management, accounting, direct and indirect taxes, law, economics, entrepreneurship and trading will be part of B. Com Honours programme. The students, who want to join the course, are required to pass 12th standard board examination with a minimum of 60% marks. Upon successful completion, the students will obtain the degree from Savitribai Phule Pune University.”

Chandrashekhar Chitale, member of central council of ICAI, said that BMCC and ICAI have signed an MOU for the successful implementation of the course.

ICAI will define the curriculum of the course in addition to training the faculty and guiding the students for skill development. ICAI will also help successful students to seek employment or to start a business.

Vice-president of Deccan Education Society Mahesh Athawale, Secreatry Prof Dhananjay Kulkarni, BMCC’s local management committee chairperson Sagar Phadke, BMCC principal Seema Purohit, auditors Chandrashekhar Chitale, Yashvant Kasar, Kashinath Pathare and course coordinator Varsha Deshpande were present at the launch event held in Pune recently.
