In a harrowing incident, the brakes of a bus carrying Amarnath pilgrims failed, leading to ten injuries as some passengers jumped from the moving vehicle to save themselves. The incident occurred on National Highway 44 in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district on Tuesday.

The bus was traveling from Baltal to Hoshiarpur when it encountered brake failure on a slope. As the driver struggled to control the vehicle, the situation grew dire, prompting several passengers to jump out. A video circulating on social media shows the chaos as pilgrims leaped from the bus while it continued to move.

Fortunately, swift intervention by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police averted a greater tragedy. Security forces managed to stop the bus by placing stones beneath its tires, preventing it from plunging into a gorge.

“Eight people were injured, including six men, three women, and one child,” an official stated. “No deaths were reported in the incident.”

The Army’s Quick Reaction Teams and police personnel quickly reached the scene, providing first aid and medical assistance to the injured promptly. Officials confirmed that the driver was unable to stop the bus near Nachlana, close to Banihal, due to the brake failure.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers faced by pilgrims and the importance of stringent vehicle maintenance and safety checks.
