Combating Dengue: PCMC Takes Action Amid Rising Cases, Five Cases Reported
Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) faces a challenge as five confirmed cases of dengue have been reported within a week, prompting swift action to curb the spread of mosquito-borne diseases. According to PCMC officials, three cases emerged in the last week of June, with an additional two reported recently. In total, ten dengue cases have surfaced in Pune civic limits so far this year, highlighting the urgency of preventive measures.
Last year, PCMC recorded 250 confirmed dengue cases, resulting in one casualty. Of the five current cases, three patients are men and two are women, with four already discharged and one stable under private hospital care.
PCMC’s health department stresses the importance of early testing to prevent complications from diseases like dengue, urging prompt hospital visits upon experiencing symptoms such as fever or skin rashes.
In addition to dengue, PCMC has reported ten confirmed malaria cases by June and is actively implementing measures to combat mosquito-borne illnesses. Civic teams have surveyed over 1.38 lakh establishments, identifying over 2,000 mosquito breeding sites. Notices have been issued to 964 establishments for non-compliance, resulting in fines totaling Rs2.19 lakh collected so far this year.
Furthermore, PCMC is hiring 56 “Breeding checkers” to conduct thorough surveys and identify mosquito breeding spots across municipal limits. These checkers will be stationed in eight municipal hospitals for a two-month period to enhance disease prevention efforts.
PCMC urges citizens to cooperate with survey teams and emphasizes community involvement in combating the spread of dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases. By taking proactive steps, PCMC aims to mitigate health risks and safeguard public well-being in the region.
