While the year’s mega blockbuster Kalki 2898 AD continues to rewrite box office history, its journey from theaters to OTT may take longer than expected. Amidst the roaring success of Nag Ashwin’s mega film, starring the charismatic Prabhas, discussions are already underway about its digital release. The early response to this mytho-sci-fi drama has been phenomenal. With Nag Ashwin’s directorial prowess and Prabhas’s star power, the film is clearly resonating with audiences.
Recent reports suggest a delay in the OTT release of Kalki 2898 AD. Initially set to arrive on digital platforms in late July, the latest buzz indicates that the film is more likely to stream from the second week of September. Amazon Prime has secured the rights for all South Indian languages, while Netflix has acquired the rights for the Hindi version. The makers are currently negotiating with these OTT giants regarding the postponement to extend the film’s successful theatrical run.
There is also mounting anticipation for the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD. The film’s conclusion teased further developments, leaving audiences intrigued about what lies ahead.
According to producer Ashwini Dutt, 60 per cent of the sequel’s filming is complete. However, significant portions of the sequel remain to be shot, making the release date uncertain. Kamal Haasan, despite a brief appearance in the first installment, hinted at an expanded role in the sequel, generating further excitement among fans.
Kalki 2898 AD has already crossed the Rs 200 crore mark domestically and a staggering Rs 415 crore worldwide within just three days of release, as announced via Vyjanthi Movies’ official Instagram handle. The film is reportedly dominating North America, grossing USD 9.4 million and drawing packed audiences.
Premiering in six languages on June 27, Kalki 2898 AD, is a fusion of Mahabharata and science fiction. It has captured the audience’s hearts and set new box office records, ensuring its place as one of the year’s biggest hits.
