With FASTag progressing and contributing towards the development of India, toll collection on Indian National Highways has reached a total of Rs. 53,289,41 crore in the first 10 months of the Fiscal year 2024.

FASTag is an initiative by the Ministry of Road of Transport and Highways and the National Highway Authority Of India, is a tag used for making toll payments directly from the customers linked to prepaid or savings/current account of the commuter.
Before the creation of FASTags in 2010, the UPA Administration back then issued a statement which would be used to understand the system’s expansion and its influence on the increase in toll collection. Before FASTags were introduced, the toll collection was very less due to issues such as corruption, evasion, insufficient enforcement measures, etc.
Gujarat, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh are amongst the highest toll collections as multiple factors affect the total amount of toll, according to the data on toll collection at different plazas.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic fall and the gradual implementation of FASTag, the total amount collected in 2022-2023 was Rs. 54,144 crore and as of January 2024, the amount collected was 53,289 crore till now. It is estimated that the amount will surpass the amounts collected in the past years.
