From IIT to Panchayat: Meet Jitendra Kumar, the OTT Sensation

In the dynamic era of OTT platforms, numerous artists are making their mark in Indian cinema. Among them, Jitendra Kumar, affectionately known as Jeetu Bhaiya, stands out for his remarkable performances in various web series and films. 

Known for his impeccable comic timing and adept emotional portrayals, Jitendra has become a household name, captivating audiences with his versatile talent.

Jitendra Kumar hails from Khairthal, Rajasthan, and pursued civil engineering at IIT Kharagpur. It was during his college years that he discovered his passion for acting, actively participating in the college’s drama society through street plays and stage performances. His journey took a pivotal turn when he met Biswapati Sarkar, a senior at IIT who would later become the executive creative director and writer at ‘The Viral Fever’ (TVF).

In 2012, Sarkar invited Jitendra to join TVF, marking the beginning of his acting career. Jitendra contributed to numerous sketch videos for TVF, many of which garnered substantial popularity on YouTube, with some videos amassing over 30 lakh views. His breakthrough came with a significant role in TVF’s web series, “Pitchers.” Following this, his portrayal of an IIT coaching teacher in the acclaimed web series “Kota Factory” further cemented his reputation.

However, it was the web series “Panchayat” that truly transformed Jitendra’s career. Released in 2020, the show’s first season resonated widely with audiences. Jitendra’s character, Abhishek Tripathi, became a household favourite, evoking nostalgia and widespread recognition. His success extended to the big screen with his role in the film “Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan” alongside Ayushmann Khurrana.

Currently, fans eagerly anticipate the release of the third season of “Panchayat” on Amazon Prime, further solidifying Jitendra Kumar’s status as a prominent and versatile talent in the OTT space. His journey from IIT Kharagpur to becoming a celebrated actor in web series and films exemplifies the evolving landscape of Indian entertainment, where OTT platforms provide a vital platform for emerging talents to showcase their skills and connect with diverse audiences.
