The Gurgaon excise department reported selling alcohol for Rs 1,842 crore at the end of the first two quarters. During the previous six months, the district saw alcohol consumption totaling Rs 300 crore per month, according to the Deputy Excise and Taxation Commissioner (West). Remarkably, alcohol sales in the east and west zones brought in Rs 1,518 crore, a notable 20% increase over the previous year’s collection for the same period.

Anticipating the upcoming auction in three months, the department is upbeat about the overall collection exceeding last year’s numbers by more than twenty percent. Gurgaon is divided into four zones. In the most recent auction, which took place after Delhi’s new excise policy was revoked, heightened customer demand created intense competition, which drove up license fees in the zones by more than 50%.

Bidders were keen to open stores close to Delhi during the June 12 auction for vends under Haryana’s excise policy for 2023–24, which led to a larger amount being auctioned in border zones than the previous year. The excise department’s routine checks to prevent fake alcohol have been reinforced by more police action against these vendors.

In the meantime, wine and liquor stores in Noida and Greater Noida will stay open an extra hour on December 24 and December 31 until 11 pm due to the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
