H3N2 Virus : Suspected H3N2 patient dies in Pimpri Chinchwad

PUNE: The death audit committee of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s health department will investigate the death of a suspected H3N2 patient at the Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital on Thursday, March 16. 

According to officials, the 73 year old patient was admitted to Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital on 8 March after being referred from a private hospital as he was suffering from fever and cough.

Senior officials from PCMC health department informed that as per protocol set by the state government, the committee will declare it officially. 

However other officials from PCMC health department confirmed that, and said the patient was tested positive for H3N2. 

This was the first death of H3N2 suspected in Pune district. With the H3N2 influenza cases showing an increasing trend in Maharashtra, state health minister Tanaji Sawant on Wednesday, March 15 told that people should get immediate treatment for any kind of symptoms of influenza. He told that,the department has issued an advisory about influenza and kept all district health teams on alert.

The State Health Department has issued directives related to symptoms and treatment related to influenza. All suspected patients across the state to be treated as per requirement in isolation centres.The state health department has made available all necessary medicines required for influenza so there is no need to panic.
