June 25, 2024

Amitabh Bachchan and Prabhas take on adversarial roles in Nag Ashwin’s much-anticipated film, Kalki 2898 AD. During a playful interaction at the film’s pre-release event held in Mumbai on June 19, the legendary actor humorously apologized to Prabhas’ fans for his character’s actions in the movie.

After the event, the star-studded cast discussed the film, and Big B recalled the moment when director Nag Ashwin first approached him about his role. Speaking on the Vyjayanthi Network’s YouTube channel, Bachchan shared, “When Nagi came to talk to me about the film, he brought this concept art of what my character is going to look like and what Prabhas is going to look like. I was this huge guy who was shoving off ‘the Prabhas’. To all the fans of Prabhas, please excuse me, mein haath jod ke maafi maang raha hu (I apologise with folded hands)… please don’t massacre me after you see what I do in the film.”

The event, dubbed The Kalki Chronicles, saw Bachchan making light-hearted remarks, requesting Prabhas’ fans to go easy on him post the film’s release. “When Nagi came to me to talk about the project, he just brought a picture of what my character is going to look like and what Prabhas is going to look like. And I was this huge guy who was shoving off ‘The Prabhas.’ All the fans of Prabhas, please excuse me. Haath jod ke maafi maang rahe hain (I apologize with my folded hands). Don’t massacre me after you see what I do in the film.” In response, Prabhas smiled and assured, “Sir, they are all your fans.”

Kalki 2898 AD, hailed as one of Indian cinema’s most ambitious projects this year, draws inspiration from Sanskrit texts – Kalki Puran by sage Agastya and Mahabharata by Ved Vyas. Amitabh Bachchan portrays the immortal warrior Ashwatthama, who defends Deepika Padukone’s character, SUM-80, from a bounty hunter named Bhairava, played by Prabhas, in this dystopian action-thriller.

The film boasts an ensemble cast, including Kamal Haasan, Disha Patani, Saswata Chatterjee, Shobhana, Rajendra Prasad, and Malvika Nair, with Keerthy Suresh lending her voice to BU-JZ-1, an AI droid and vehicle companion to Bhairava. Kalki 2898 AD is produced by C Aswini Dutt under the banner Vyjayanthi Movies. Originally made in Hindi and Telugu, the film will also be dubbed in Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam. It will be released in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D formats in theaters on June 27.
