The ICC has announced that the winners of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 will receive a record prize of $2.45 million, which is approximately ₹20 crore. This is the highest prize money ever awarded in the history of the tournament. The runners-up will receive $1.28 million, while the losing semi-finalists will each get $787,500.

According to ICC Chief Executive Officer Geoff Allardice, “This event is historic in so many ways, so it is fitting that the prize money for players reflects that. Hundreds of millions of fans around the world will be entertained by the players in what we’re hoping to be an Out of This World event.”

The 2024 T20 World Cup is notable for featuring a historic participation of 20 teams, divided into four groups of five teams each. Each team will compete against its group-stage opponents, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the Super 8s, which commence on June 19.

The four groups for the T20 World Cup 2024 are as follows

Group A: Canada, India (A1), Ireland, Pakistan (A2), USA

Group B: Australia (B2), England (B1), Namibia, Oman, Scotland

Group C: Afghanistan, New Zealand (C1), Papua New Guinea, Uganda, West Indies (C2)

Group D: Bangladesh, Nepal, Netherlands, South Africa (D1), Sri Lanka (D2)

The tournament will begin with 40 matches in the first round, leading to the Super 8s, followed by the semi-finals held in Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana. The final match will take place at the Kensington Oval in Barbados, where the 2024 men’s champions will be crowned.

England, the defending champions, are aiming to win their third T20 World Cup title, having previously won the tournament in Australia in 2022.
