IIT Kanpur professor dies after collapsing on stage

Authorities at the institute announced on Saturday that a 53-year-old senior professor at IIT-Kanpur passed away from cardiac arrest while giving a talk at an alumni meet.

The head of the mechanical engineering department and dean of student affairs, Sameer Khandekar, reportedly passed out on the dais on Friday while speaking to the crowd.

The authorities said that after being taken to the hospital, he was pronounced dead.

According to a professor, Sameer Khandekar received a diagnosis of elevated cholesterol levels approximately five years prior.

Former IIT Kanpur Director has expressed shock at Sameer Khandekar’s untimely death. He referred to Khandekar as an exceptional researcher and teacher.

The former IIT Kanpur Director further continued that while giving a lecture, Khandekar experienced excruciating chest pain and began to perspire heavily. He collapsed on stage before anyone could comprehend what was happening.

According to him, the body is being held at the health center of IIT Kanpur, and the last rites won’t be carried out until his only son Pravah Khandekar, a Cambridge University student, arrives.
