Instagram has launched a new feature allowing users to live stream exclusively to their “Close Friends” This update, named “Close Friends on Live,” was announced on June 20 and is now accessible globally.

With this feature, live streams will only be visible to users on the streamer’s “Close Friends” list. Users can easily add or remove people from this list. Additionally, up to three other accounts can join the live stream. Previously, live broadcasts were visible to all followers, and if the account was public, anyone could join and view the stream. This new option gives users more control over their audience.

Meta, the company that owns Instagram, aims to enhance user privacy with this new feature. Last November, Instagram introduced a similar feature allowing users to share posts exclusively with their close friends. They also added a mute button, enabling users to mute everyone except their close friends, enhancing safety settings.

In addition to the “Close Friends on Live” feature, Instagram is introducing new ways to connect privately. The “Notes” feature allows users to share private updates with their followers and friends. Instagram also announced that users can now add music to carousel posts that include videos, a function previously limited to photo carousels.

These updates reflect Instagram’s ongoing efforts to offer more personalized and private experiences on the platform.
