Kashmir temperature drops below zero

Gulmarg, located in the Baramulla district, registered a temperature of -2.2 degrees Celsius, whereas Qazigund witnessed a drop in temperature from -1.6 degrees Celsius the previous night to -2 degrees Celsius. 

The snowy mountains, trees, and bare branches covered in snow captivated onlookers from various regions of the country.

On Wednesday, officials reported that the temperature in Kashmir fell below freezing point as the cold weather intensified in the valley. Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 2 degrees Celsius, which was lower than the previous night’s temperature of minus 1.4 degrees Celsius.

On Tuesday night, Pahalgam in the Anantnag district of south Kashmir, known as the starting point for the annual Amarnath yatra, experienced a temperature drop to minus 5.1 degrees Celsius. This region registered as the coldest area in the Valley.

Kokernag, a town located in south Kashmir, experienced a minimum temperature of -0.5 degrees Celsius, whereas Kupwara observed a low of -2.7 degrees Celsius. The snowcapped mountains in Karnah, located in the Kupwara district, offer a breathtaking view after experiencing heavy snowfall.

Tourists are strolling across the snow-covered terrain in Karnah, located in the Kupwara district, on Monday. As per the meteorological office, the weather is predicted to be partial to generally cloudy, with predominantly dry conditions prevailing until December 10. A slight decrease in the night temperature is anticipated.
