In a shocking incident in Kondhwa, a 43-year-old computer engineer allegedly killed his elderly mother due to his alcohol addiction. The accused, Milind Benjamin, is currently absconding. The victim, Lata Alfred Benjamin (73), lived in Kubera Garden Society on NIBM Road, Kondhwa.

The complaint was lodged by Milind’s elder sister, Dorthy Mozes Panmozes (49), a teacher residing in Solace Park, Ghorpadi. According to the police, Lata’s husband passed away 20 years ago. She lived with Milind, while her daughters, Sushmita and Dorthy, are married and live separately.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the murder resulted from Milind’s alcohol addiction. Milind lost his job in Bangalore during COVID-19 and returned to Pune, remaining unemployed for three years. During this time, he became addicted to alcohol and frequently argued with his mother. Lata, after her retirement, worked as a part-time teacher to cover household expenses.

On May 26, Dorthy contacted her mother. On the evening of May 28, residents informed Dorthy and Sushmita about a foul smell coming from Lata’s flat. That night, they went to the flat and reported the incident to the police. Milind had written “Mom is inside, don’t go” on the bathroom door. Upon opening the door, they found Lata lying in a pool of blood.
It was discovered that Milind had left the house with his mother’s mobile phone. Kondhwa police station Senior Inspector Santosh Sonawane visited the scene. Assistant Inspector Mohsin Pathan is leading the investigation, and efforts are ongoing to locate Milind.
