In a tragic incident at Lonavala’s Bhushi Dam, five members of the Ansari family were swept away while playing in the waterfall behind the dam at around 12:30 PM. Rescue teams are actively searching for the missing individuals in the dam’s waters.

Ansari family belonged to Sayyed Nagar near Wanowrie. The incident occurred when the family, enjoying a rainy day outing, ventured into the waterfall, known locally as the “railway waterfall.” The strong currents of the waterfall, which feeds into Bhushi Dam, quickly overwhelmed the family, pulling them into the dam’s waters.

The victims include both children and women. Rescue operations began immediately, with various teams combing the area to locate the missing family members. Tragically, the bodies of two women from the Ansari family have already been found and recovered.

The waterfall and the Bhushi Dam area are popular tourist spots, especially during the monsoon season, attracting numerous visitors who come to enjoy the scenic beauty and the cool waters. However, the heavy rains also make these spots dangerous, with rapidly rising water levels and strong currents posing significant risks.

Local authorities have been urging tourists to exercise caution and adhere to safety guidelines when visiting such areas, especially during the monsoon season. Despite these warnings, incidents like this continue to occur, highlighting the need for increased safety measures and awareness among visitors.

The search for the remaining three family members is ongoing, with rescue teams working tirelessly to locate them. The incident has cast a pall over the area, with both locals and tourists expressing their shock and sorrow over the tragic event.

Authorities are expected to review safety protocols at the site to prevent such incidents in the future, ensuring that visitors can enjoy the natural beauty of Lonavala without compromising their safety.
