Lt Gen Devendra Sharma has assumed the role of the 25th General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Army Training Command (ARTRAC) in Shimla. He’s an alumnus of Mayo College in Ajmer, the National Defence Academy (NDA), and the Indian Military Academy (IMA). Lt Gen Sharma has an impressive career, having received the prestigious ‘Sword of Honour’ and being commissioned into ‘The Scinde Horse’ on December 19, 1987. Throughout his nearly four-decade career, he has held significant command positions in various critical operational areas, counter-terrorism settings, and high-altitude regions.

The headquarters of the Western Command was situated in Shimla during significant conflicts like the India-Pakistan wars in 1948, 1965, and 1971, as well as the India-China war of 1962. The Western Command’s relocation to Chandimandir in 1985 marked a significant shift in its operational base.
