Maharashtra Weather Update: The state is experiencing an early monsoon crisis. Starting today until May 18, there’s a possibility of heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms in many districts, prompting a yellow and orange alert. The Meteorological Department has issued warnings for Nashik, Ahmednagar, Pune, Satara, Kolhapur, as well as Nanded and Latur in Marathwada, and Akola, Amravati, Nagpur, Buldhana, and Washim in Vidarbha, due to the likelihood of intense showers, thunderstorms, and strong winds.

Hence, citizens are advised to stay indoors unless necessary, as per the instructions from the Meteorological Department. According to the information provided by the department, a convective band of clouds, extending from Marathwada to the Konkan region, is moving towards the coastal areas, indicating a possibility of thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rains in the next four to five days in many places.

Today onwards, Nashik, Ahmednagar, Pune, Satara, Kolhapur, as well as Nanded and Latur in Marathwada, and Akola, Amravati, Nagpur, Buldhana, and Washim in Vidarbha are expected to experience thunderstorms, accompanied by intense lightning and heavy rainfall until May 13. Subsequently, on May 14 and 15, many places in Vidarbha, along with some regions in Central Maharashtra and Marathwada, are likely to witness thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rainfall, warranting a yellow alert.

In Pune district, an orange and yellow alert is issued for the next few days. Today, the city and surrounding areas are expected to have partly cloudy skies during the day, with a possibility of thunderstorms and heavy rains in the afternoon or evening. On May 12, there is a possibility of partly cloudy skies with thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rainfall. Hence, an orange alert is issued for Pune and its vicinity.

Between May 13 and 17, there’s a possibility of partly cloudy skies with thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rainfall in many areas. Therefore, a yellow alert is in place during this period. Additionally, there’s an early monsoon forecast for Mumbai and the entire Konkan region, including Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts from today until Thursday.
