The highly anticipated sports drama “Maidaan,” starring Ajay Devgn, is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video. This biographical film, which debuted in theaters in April, is based on the life of Syed Abdul Rahim, the trailblazing Indian football coach who led the national team from 1952 to 1962.

“Maidaan,” despite a slow start at the box office, managed to garner a lifetime collection of ₹52.29 crores. The film features significant performances by Priyamani and Gajraj Rao, in addition to Devgn’s portrayal of Rahim. For those who missed it in theaters, the movie’s OTT release today, June 5, offers a new opportunity to watch this compelling sports drama.

The film is available to stream exclusively on Amazon Prime Video across 240 countries and territories. The official announcement of the digital release was made by Amazon Prime Video’s official X (formerly Twitter) account.

Directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Amit Sharma, “Maidaan” is co-produced by Arunava Joy Sengupta, Akash Chawla, and renowned filmmaker Boney Kapoor. The story is set in post-independence India and captures the golden era of Indian football under Rahim’s leadership, showcasing his efforts to build a formidable team and make a mark on the global stage.  Maidaan is a film about a man’s undying spirit and his rebellion from death. The film can seem a bit stretched at places. The Bengali usage can be foreign for some. Ajay Devgn’s Hyderabadi accent is only limited to just saying ‘Miyaan’. There are too many cigarette scenes too. Given that the filmmaker wanted to show a reason for Rahim’s condition, but from the Football Federation scenes to the Hyderabad house scenes, the smoking could have been easily cut out at several places. Despite all the flaws, Maidaan is one of the finest sports films made in India. Overall, the 3-hour 1-minute movie is a fine watch and rightly deserves 3.5 stars.’

For fans of sports dramas and biographical films, “Maidaan” is a must-watch, now conveniently accessible on Amazon Prime Video.
