Mumbai experienced a chilly Sunday as the temperature dropped to 15 degrees Celsius, which is the lowest recorded temperature for February and the second-lowest for the entire winter season. This temperature was notably four degrees below the usual temperature for this time of the year. Sunil Kamble, Head of IMD Mumbai, has forecasted that ”The cold weather will continue for the next two to three days.” The cause of this is said to be ”Northerly winds and the possibility of thunderstorms in Vidarbha and North Madhya Maharashtra.”

Adding to the contrast, the maximum temperature at Santacruz soared to 35.7 degrees Celsius, a three-degree surplus from the normal range. Meanwhile, Colaba recorded a minimum of 19.5 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 30.6 degrees Celsius.

IMD predicts that the minimum temperature will range from 19 to 22 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature is expected to be between 32 and 35 degrees Celsius in the next week.

Mumbai’s air quality index (AQI) rose to 118, marking it as ‘moderate’, due to an increase in pollutants such as PM10, PM2.5, and O3, caused by a drop in temperature. Interestingly, despite a period of satisfactory air quality, the station in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) recorded poor air quality at 206, mainly due to PM10 pollutants.

As Mumbaikars brace themselves for a few more chilly days, warmer weather awaits in the forecast, promising a shift from the recent cold spell.
