Strap: The incident took place when a religious preacher Bhole Baba was addressing his followers at a specially laid tent in the Rati Bhanpur village in the Sikandra Rau area of Hathras district.

According to a recent report, as many as 116 people have died in a stampede during the conclusion of a ‘Satsang’ at Phulrai village in Hathras of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, July 2.

The incident took place during the address of a religious preacher Bhole Baba. He was addressing his followers at a specially laid tent in the Rati Bhanpur village, Sikandra Rau area of Hathras district.

The interim reports stated that suffocation at the venue led to discomfort due to hot and humid weather. After it was over, the people started running after, causing a stampede, the police added.

As per senior Superintendent of Police, Etah, Rajesh Kumar Singh, a total of 27 bodies have arrived in Etah hospital. Of the total killed included 23 women, three children and a man.

Some of the deceased have been identified as – Ganga Devi (70) from Hathras, Priyanka (20) from Kasganj, Jasoda (70) from Mathura, and Saroj Lata (60) from Etah and two deceased children – Kavya (4) and Ayush (8), both from Shahjahnpur.

Taking it to social media X (formerly known as Twitter), The PM Office (PMO) announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakhs to the kin of deceased and Rs. 50,000 to the injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.

Additionally, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences to the families of those killed in the stampede and speedy recovery to the injured. 

The UP government is engaged in providing all possible help to all the victims. 

He also instructed officials to reach the accident site and carry out relief measures.
