5,000 Police Officers Deployed for Palkhi Ceremony in Pune

A large security detail comprising 5,000 police personnel will be deployed to maintain law and order during the Palkhi ceremony of Sant Dnyaneshwar and Sant Tukaram, set to enter Pune city on Sunday, June 30. The event attracts a massive crowd of pilgrims and devotees who participate in the procession, also known as the Wari.

The entire ceremony will be closely monitored by CCTV cameras, with towers erected at various locations to aid in surveillance. In addition plain clothes policemen will be stationed throughout the city to prevent thefts of valuables and mobile phones from the devotees.

Schedule and Stops:
Saturday, June 29: The Palkhi of Sant Dnyaneshwar will depart from Alandi.
Sunday, June 30 : Both Palkhis will enter Pune.
Monday, July 1 : The Palkhis will halt at temples in Nana Peth and Bhawani Peth.
  •   – Sant Tukaram’s Palkhi will stop at Nivandugya Vithoba Mandir in Nana Peth.
  •   – Sant Dnyaneshwar’s Palkhi will stop at Palkhi Vithoba Temple in Bhawani Peth.

Tuesday, July 2: The Palkhis will depart from Pune.

The police will manage the large crowds ensuring smooth traffic flow during the ceremony. Special plans have been put in place to handle the influx of pilgrims. Police to maintain law and order throughout the event.
