The city of Dehu resonated with the sounds of holy chants, cymbals, and mridangam drums as Saint Tukaram Maharaj’s palanquin procession set off. Holding saffron flags, with cymbals and mridanga echoing, tulsi vrindavan on their heads, and chanting the name of Hari, the devotees embarked on the Ashadhi Wari pilgrimage to Pandharpur on Friday, the 28th.

Thousands of devotees with a longing for Pandharpur participated in the procession. Devotees had gathered in Dehu from every corner of the state. Immersed in the rhythm of cymbals, mridanga , and veenas, the devotees expressed their joy through dances and foot-tapping. The preparations for the departure ceremony began early in the morning, with the devotees bustling with activity.

From early morning, devotees crowded the Indrayani River banks for ritual baths and prayers, forming long queues at the main temple for darshan. After the Kakad Aarti, Mahapuja was conducted at several temples by institution leaders and trustees, with local representatives present.

The continuous Harinam week concluded with a kirtan by Bhanudas Maharaj More. At 11 AM, Kailas Solunke carried Saint Tukaram Maharaj’s padukas on his head to the Inamdar Wada, where Dilip Gosavi worshipped them. Around 12:30 PM, the padukas were brought to the main temple and then to the Bhajan Mandap, marking the start of the Palkhi procession at 2 PM.

  2. Village priests recited Vedic mantras and performed Varun and Kalash puja.

  4. The sandals were placed in the palanquin, and important participants were honoured.
  5. The procession began with cymbals and mridanga , and devotees chanted “Pundalika Varada Hari Vitthal.”
  6. The palanquin moved from the temple to Inamdar Wada, arriving around 6:30 PM.
  7. After the aarti, there was kirtan and a wakeful vigil until dawn.

Today in Pimpri-Chinchwad And Stay In Pune On June 30 and July 1 

  1. The palanquin procession started on June 28th at 2 PM, stopping first at Inamdar Wada.
  2. On June 29th, it will reach Bhakti-Shakti Chowk in Pimpri-Chinchwad and stay overnight in Akurdi.
  3. On June 30th, it moved to Pune’s Shri Nivdung Vitthala Temple in Nana Peth for a two-day stay. Here it will stay on June 30 and July 1, proceeding further on July 2 morning from Pune to Loni Kalbhor Palkhi Tal.

Massive Gathering of Devotees

Preparations have been ongoing for a month, with pilgrims arriving in Dehu for eight days.The area is adorned with marigold garlands for the 339th year of the procession.The temple resonates with the sounds of cymbals and mridangam as devotees gather in devotion.
