Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Commissioner Shekhar Singh has appealed to the societies that practise eco-friendly initiatives to apply for rebate. These societies are eligible for 3 to 10 percent tax rebate. Societies implementing on-site composting, sewage treatment plants.

SHekhar Singh, Commissioner, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation had asked all its ward offices to submit information about these societies by January 2023, so that the rebate can be reflected in their property tax bills for the year 2023-24. In the year 2022-23, 12,000  from 50 societies had availed the rebate.

With property tax being the main source of income for the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, the tax collection department has introduced several concessions to collect maximum tax in the financial year 2023-24. Last year, 12,000 flat owners who adopted environmentally-friendly practices such as onsite composting, zero waste, and sewage treatment plant (STP) were given a discount of ₹ 65 lakh. However, many societies in the city are unaware of these schemes and are missing out on the discounts.

To rectify this, the Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh has appealed to property owners and society owners to install composting systems and STPs. Nilesh Deshmukh, Assistant Commissioner of Tax Collection and Taxation Department, has urged eligible property owners to apply online on the municipal corporation’s website for availing the benefits. The discounts offered by the department are as follows:

  1. 5% discount if the onsite composting system is functional and wet waste is fully composted.
  2. 3% discount if STP is operational.
  3. 8% discount if both onsite composting system and STP are operational.
  4. 8% discount if zero waste concept is implemented, and both wet and dry waste are completely composted.
  5. 10% discount if zero waste concept and STP are functional, and both wet and dry waste are completely composted.

Residential property owners need to apply online to avail these environmental supplementary exemptions and pay the entire tax amount after deducting the applicable discount. If the systems are not operational in subsequent years, the exemption will be canceled, and recovery will be applicable for wrong discounts taken.
