Pimpri: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) in Maharashtra has received a government order waiving off the penalty tax that was being levied on illegal constructions, officials announced on Friday.

The waiver will benefit 97,000 properties in the city, but will be a loss of PCMC over ₹460 crore.

According to the government order, the penalty tax will not be waived unless the owner of the illegal construction property makes full payment of the original tax. The order also clarifies that if the penalty for illegal construction is waived, it will not be considered that these constructions have become regular.

PCMC Assistant Commissioner, Nilesh Deshmukh, said, “Penalty tax of 97,000 illegal constructions will be waived off. But there is a condition put by the government, this illegal property holder has to pay the original property tax to get the waiver in penalty tax.”
