The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has sprung into action following pre-monsoon showers that inundated several areas across the city. The drainage department conducted assessments and recommended measures to mitigate flooding in affected spots including Yerawada, Vimannagar, Sinhagad Road, Koregaon Park, Mahalunge, Timber Market, Lohegaon, Aundh, Market Yard, Dhanori, Baner Road, JM Road, Ganeshkhind Road, Karve Road, and NDA Road.

In response to these recommendations, PMC’s road department has initiated specific projects to enhance drainage infrastructure. Notably, drainage chambers along VR Shinde Road in Bibvewadi have been raised to street level to improve water flow management. Additionally, a new drainage chamber is under construction in Pulachiwadi at Deccan Gymkhana.

To facilitate better stormwater management, the PMC has commenced work to connect stormwater lines with the culvert near Commerce Zone in Yerawada. Moreover, proactive steps have been taken at Shivaji Chowk on Satara Road, where footpaths have been modified to create channels directing water flow towards nearby nullahs.

PMC aims to minimize inconvenience caused by heavy rains in Pune’s residential and commercial areas.

PMC officials emphasize the importance of community cooperation in maintaining clean and functional drainage systems. Residents are encouraged to report any drainage-related concerns promptly to facilitate timely resolution by municipal authorities.
